Fairfax is located in the southern part of Franklin County, bordering Chittenden County to the south. The Town of Fairfax has a growing population of around 4,000 residents. The Lamoille River passes from east to west across the southern portion of the town. Fairfax hosts some popular convenience stores and markets such as Steeple Market and Minors Country Store. The town features a variety of recreational areas such as the Community Corner, Community Park and Recreation Path, the 100 Acre Woods and is also situated within a 30 minute drive of Smugglers Notch Resort.

Fairfax is located about 40 minutes from Burlington, 20 minutes from Essex and 30 minutes from Saint Albans.
